Roy Nykänen

Dental Specialist, orthodontics

I am a positive and easy-going dentist specialised in orthodontics. I have gained experience by working at many health centres and private clinics as well as 10 years at an NHS orthodontics practice near London. I completed my three years of orthodontics training in Oslo.

My goal is to create aesthetic smiles with a balanced occlusion. I use modern and effective orthodontic methods, such as aligners (Invisalign), as well as state-of-the-art fixed braces (generally speaking, I don’t work with traditional attachments or lingual braces anymore, and in aesthetic orthodontic treatment, I focus on the Invisalign technology, which over the years has become more effective than lingual technique).

In order to provide the best possible care to my for my patients, I keep my skills and expertise up-to-date by regularly attending further training and working together with oral healthcare professionals. I have been an instructor of Damon and lingual braces, have now worked as an Invisalign instructor for 5 years, and I have also represented the Nordic countries in the European steering group of Invisaligh.

I welcome customers of all ages!

Invisalign can also be used to treat children; my youngest Invisalign patient is 8 years old. Orthodontic aligners can be used, for example, to correct crossbite or overbite or make more room for erupting teeth. Overbite in adolescents can be treated (with Invisalign MA) by promoting the growth of the mandibular, which also increases their breathing capacity slightly, possibly proactively preventing or reducing snoring and sleep apnea in adulthood. The aligners can be removed when eating and brushing teeth, so that the orthodontic treatment causes fewer restrictions in daily life. With aligner technology, the force to move the teeth is increased slowly by replacing the aligner once a week. This results in lighter force and, usually, a painless orthodontic process.

Book an appointment, and we can figure out the best orthodontic solution for you! The initial assessment by a specialised dentist takes 45 minutes and is always subject to a fee. During the visit, you will receive a written treatment plan and a cost estimate.

From this autumn onwards, I will only provide orthodontic treatment at the Oral City practice.
