Oral and maxillofacial surgery

What is oral and maxillofacial surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery refers to the examination and surgical treatment of diseases, accidents and defects in the mouth and jaw region,  such as:

- dental extractions
- operations on the tooth's root tip
- collection of biopsies from mucosal changes
- extraction of small, benign tumors
- treatment of temporomandibular joint pains
- artificial root treatments and bone grafts

This are usually a short surgical operations performed under local anesthesia. The procedures can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia if necessary. The recuperation times after surgical procedures are short, which enables discharge on the same day. This results in less impact on running one's daily tasks.
