Do you or your child suffer from upper respiratory tract infections or ear infections? Do you or your family member snore or have sleep apnea? Is your nose constantly congested, or do you have allergies?

Ear infections, prolonged runny nose, sinus infections, snoring and sleep apnea can be bothersome, and it is a good idea to get them treated properly. At Oral Qmedical Pikku Huopalahti, our experienced ear, nose and throat specialists use the latest technology and treatment methods to diagnose and treat problems of the upper respiratory tract.

Ear, nose and throat problems

Ear, nose and throat problems are very common across all age groups. Treatment given by a specialist based on a quick and accurate diagnosis can reduce the problems caused by these conditions. At our well-equipped practice, we can often examine and treat patients during their first appointment. In addition to the wide range of procedures that can be performed during a normal appointment, we also offer more extensive surgical procedures.

Recurrent upper respiratory tract infections in young children are part of everyday life for many families with children. Especially when the ear, nose or throat problems are recurrent and prolonged, an ear specialist can resolve the problem, enabling the family to return to their normal routine. Our gentle doctors are also used to working with young children.

Our practice offers a unique opportunity for high-quality X-rays as well as immediate consultations with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a specialised dentist. This kind of cooperation in case of facial injuries or problems of dental origin related to the paranasal sinuses will save you time. When planning treatments, we pay special attention to informing the patients and listening to their opinions. We cooperate with insurance companies and offer flexible payment options.

Ear infection

A viral upper respiratory tract infection, i.e. a common cold, can lead to bacterial otitis media, i.e. an ear infection, especially in young children. If the symptoms are severe, a course of antibiotics can help the patient recover faster from a bacterial infection. In case of recurrent infections, inserting ear tubes can help prevent further infections.

Tonsillectomy

Enlarged tonsils can make the respiratory tract more narrow in adults and children, which often leads to nasal congestion and snoring. Tonsillectomy can be used to treat recurrent acute tonsillitis (i.e. pharyngitis), chronic tonsillitis and large tonsils.

Sinus infection

Sinus infection is usually caused by a viral upper respiratory tract infection. Most mild sinus infections will clear up on their own without medication. In severe cases, antibiotics and nasal cortisone sprays are used to treat the infection, in addition to nasal irrigation. If needed, an antral washout can also be performed.

Sleep apnea and its treatment

Do you always wake up tired? Do you or your family member snore? If you feel tired even after sleeping, you may be suffering from sleep apnea, which causes pauses in breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea can be reliably diagnosed with a polysomnography device that measures breathing and other body functions during sleep. After sleep apnea is diagnosed, it can be treated with weight management, a mandibular advancement device made by a dentist or a CPAP machine that improves breathing during sleep.

Nasal septum deviation

The nasal passages are separated by a nasal septum, which is composed of cartilage at the front and bone at the back. An impact can cause fractures in the septum, which may lead to a deviation. If the deviation is mild, it might not cause any problems. However, extensive deviation may cause congestion in the other half of the nose, which cannot be alleviated through medication. It can also make snoring worse. A deviated septum can only be corrected through nasal surgery.

Allergic rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis can be constant or seasonal, and it often also involves symptoms affecting the eyes and the lower respiratory tract. If your symptoms are disrupting your sleep or restricting your daily activities, it is a good idea to see a doctor. There are effective treatments for allergies, which will usually eliminate all symptoms.

Tight lingual or labial frenulum

A tight lingual or labial frenulum can cause problems for newborns, older children and even adults. For babies, a tight lingual frenulum can make breastfeeding more difficult, and older children may have problems with eating or speaking. These problems can be treated by cutting the lingual frenulum, which will enable freer movement. For babies, the procedure can be performed during a normal appointment. For older children and adults, the procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.
