Root apex resection can be performed if the tip of a root in a tooth that has received root canal therapy becomes infected, and a pin or screw in the treated root canal prevents a new root canal treatment.
The service process
In a small surgical procedure, the gum is opened so that the root-end area is visible. At the same time, the tip of the infected root is cut off and the root filling is renewed or a small filling is placed on the root-end.
The operation is performed under local anaesthesia and is painless. If the root filling is renewed during the surgical procedure, a temporary filling is placed on the tooth and the final filling will be inserted after a few weeks of follow-up.
The success of the operation is monitored with follow-up checks in one week, three months and one year after the operation.
